Infrastructure & Operations on a permanent basis. The location for
this role can be Warwick or London - with a hybrid working
model.Job PurposeAs Head of UK Critical National Infrastructure
(CNI) Operations, you will lead a transformative team responsible
for supporting critical systems for the Electricity Transmission
Network in England and Wales. Your role involves modernizing and
innovating infrastructure operations while ensuring exceptional
service reliability. You will bring experience from revenue-driven
organizations where IT infrastructure and applications are crucial,
prioritizing operational continuity.Key Responsibilities
- Lead a 24x7 infrastructure support team covering hardware,
compute, storage, virtualization, OS, databases, data networks,
security, monitoring, incident resolution, asset risk management,
audit, capacity management, tooling, and automation.
- Drive digital transformation within the Electricity
Transmission Network, improving IT systems while adhering to
regulatory commitments and cost management.
- Lead and maintain world-class infrastructure support, ensuring
seamless and reliable operations.
- Champion modern methodologies such as Site Reliability
Engineering (SRE) to drive system efficiency and resilience.
- Collaborate closely with third-party providers to ensure
high-quality service and minimise operational risks.
- Develop KPIs to monitor and improve infrastructure performance,
focusing on preventing outages and minimising downtime.
- Lead the organisation in adopting forward-looking,
transformative strategies for infrastructure operations, ensuring
systems are future-proof.
- Ensure the availability, reliability, and security of the CNI
IT estate, aligning with the company's business-critical
objectives.
- Drive financial management and cost control within the
infrastructure operations team.
- Foster a culture of innovation, empowering teams to challenge
the status quo and enhance operational capabilities.About you
- Proven experience in leading high-performing teams that support
critical IT infrastructure where outages are unacceptable.
- Expertise in managing secure, resilient, and highly available
IT infrastructures, with experience in modernising operations
through SRE principles.
- Strong background in transitioning legacy systems without
impacting availability, especially in revenue/safety-critical
environments.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into
actionable IT strategy.
- Experience in driving strategic transformation initiatives that
align infrastructure operations with business and revenue
imperatives.
- Deep understanding of automation, root cause elimination, and
the reduction of operational toil through Infrastructure as
Code.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on fostering inclusive
and diverse teams.
- Demonstrated strong leadership in managing multiple vendors,
fostering collaborative relationships, and ensuring high-quality
service delivery.
- Educated to degree level in Computer Science, OR an equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proven track record of managing SRE functions in critical
infrastructure settings.
- Expertise in IT Service Management frameworks and best
practices (ex. ITIL, COBIT, ISO/IEC 20000, DevOps..) with
experience in developing strategies for system modernisation and
replacement.
- Experience of setting strategy and direction for future system
replacements, ideally CNI.
- A solid understanding of policies and procedures required for
the support of critical systems.What you'll getA competitive salary
between -75,000 - -90,000 - dependent on capability.As well as your
base salary, you will receive:
- 20% of your salary for stretch performance.
